Ingredients (~6 servings)
- 1 1/2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into strips
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
- 1 yellow or orange bell pepper, cut into strips
- 1 large yellow or white onion, cut into strips
- 1 Tbsp avocado oil or neutral oil
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 3/4 tsp cumin
- 3/4 tsp onion powder
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Preheat the Air Fryer to 390F
Most air fryers need ~3 minutes to preheat, but check your manufacturer’s instructions.
Some models preheat faster than others.
Make the Fajita Seasoning and Coat the Chicken
In a large bowl, whisk together the oil with all the spices – chili powder, salt, smoked paprika, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne.
Add the chicken strips and toss well to coat everything in the seasoned oil.
The chicken should be evenly coated; if it looks dry, add another teaspoon of oil.
Add the Vegetables and Toss Everything Together
Add the sliced onion and bell peppers to the bowl with the seasoned chicken.
Toss everything together so the vegetables get lightly coated in the remaining oil and seasoning.
Don’t worry if the vegetables aren’t as heavily coated as the chicken – they’ll pick up flavor as they cook.
Cook for 15-17 Minutes, Shaking Halfway Through
Add everything to your air fryer basket in a single layer as much as possible.
Cook for ~15-17 minutes, shaking the basket at the halfway point to redistribute everything.
The chicken is done when it reaches 165F internal temperature in the thickest pieces; the vegetables should be tender with some nice browned edges.
If your air fryer is smaller, you might need to cook in two batches to avoid overcrowding.
Serve immediately with tortillas, salsa, and whatever toppings you like.
